11 | ![]() | Anson Barnett and ship mascot While in the Philippines Anson took on a monkey that became his pet and the ship's mascot. The monkey was constantly getting into mischief and was a great source of entertainment when they were at sea. At one point while they were sea-docked with another ship transferring supplies, the monkey let his tail hang off the side of the boat and when the boats bumped against each other the monkey's tail was broken in multiple locations. The ship's doctor set the tail in a cast and for weeks the monkey carried his cast tail around the ship, tucked in on his arm. When the Anson's stint in the Navy was over the monkey had to stay on the ship for quarantine purposes, so he lost his pet.

33 | ![]() | LCT-786 This is the ship that Anson Carrington Barnett served on during World War II. It's designation was LCT-786, which means that it was a "Landing Craft Tank" designed to deliver tanks to beachheads. Although that was the design intention, his ship never made any beach landings under fire like on D-Day. It instead was used for carrying munitions and supplies in the Pacific. This picture was taken after the war after the ship was sold by the Navy.
