John D. Barnett Senior Is Dead At Steep Hollow
John D. Barnett, Sr., aged 64 years, died this morning at 1 o'clock athis home in the Steep Hollow community from heart trouble, an ailmentfrom which he has suffered for more tha a year and which grew moreserious about a week ago.
Mr. Barnett was born November 14, 1860 [sic], near Rusk, in Cherokeecounty. When he was but seven years of age his parents moved to Brazoscounty and first lived south of Bryan on the tract where City clerk GuyP. Bittle now resides. They later moved to San Antonio, when he was about16 years old, and after three years of residence there they returned toBrazos county, this time settling north of Bryan. In 1885 Mr. Barnett wasmarried to Miss Mary Rawls of Bryan and they made their home at Alexanderfor about eight years, then moving to Steep Hollow where they have livedon the same farm since that time.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughters: Mrs.Barnett, Joe R. Barnett and John D. Barnett, Jr., both of Steep Hollow,and Mrs. Callie Jones of Harvey and Miss Lizzie Barnett who still makesher home with her parents.
Funeral Services were held this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in theMethodist church at Steep Hollow with Jesse C. Thompson of CollegeStation, assisted by the pastor, Rev. L. C. Upton. Burial was in theSteep Hollow cemetery
